 If
your water softener is over 10+ years old, it becomes increasingly likely that
the ion exchange resin is starting to fade. It will carry on using salt in the
normal way but will give you less and less softened water output.
Typically the situation occurs slowly, so slowly that you that you probably
don't notice anything is wrong until scale starts to form or the water doesn't
feel as soft used to be. This will occur with all water softeners.
Unlike some water softeners companies, the Ensign can be
factory rebuilt with new ion exchange
resin and genuine OEM components. This will restore the function to virtual new
condition and renew the 10+ year working life.
The best thing you can do to a 10+ year old water softener, is give it another fully functional working life
with a factory rebuild. It's cheaper and greener than a trade-in or sending it
to landfill.
